Critique PLEASE

Alrighty Please help! I'd so appreciate if you would please critique
this dolls face..This is my first attempt at making a Antique inspired dolls face
Click on pictures to see a larger view..all do that except one...
I am working over gesso , then acrylic base for face..
I use white acrylic for eyes then used water color pencils, I'm trying to shade with out going heavy..which I always seem to do.I'm using the water color pencils and a damp brush

I'm at a total lost for shading for the nose..right now she looks like miss piggy.

I have no picture or book to refer to for shading..

Shading water color pencils Prismacolor sienna Brown and Loew-Cornell Vandyke Brown
I have tried to take pictures of her up close and in different lighting
Since I tend to always go over board and end of with a heavy look..
I do not know when to stop
Do you think she needs more shading under her eyes??
I feel she needs more depth and I don't know how to achieve that look
oh gosh her poor nose *oink*:)
I really need help here!
Thanks from the bottom of my heart for any help!
((Hugs Sherrie))

Sherrie,

Kat Lees has a wonderful CD on "Creating Faces With Chalk" that would help you with the shading around the nose and under the eyes. She sells her cd here: http://dollmakersjourney.com/lees.html

Also, she has a LOT of tips on her various blogs. Her Designs By Kat blog is at http://designsbykat.blogspot.com/

Hope this helps.

Have a wonderful holiday season.

Linda

What a beautiful doll...beautiful face...she looks human. I am a beginner myself...didn't have any kind of art courses or training but I know what appeals to me. Her face is symetrical and appealing in a human sort of way...for what its worth, my 2-3 cents...lol...Can't wait to see her finished either!!!!

Hi Pam I'm honored Thank You much! Me to b eginnner at this type of face painting..Funny taking some thing new and making it to look like a antique..gotta love it, ya know this sounds so vain..but when I was taking her picture it was though she was looking back at me..I didn't want her to look like a doll or child.I have a lot of growing todo, but do feel I at least achieved a b it of human look Thanks again

For all the coloured pencil work I have done on paper, I have never tried them on a cloth doll. You did such a beautiful job, Sherrie, the colours are so deep and rich, I thought you used paint. Yes, beautiful job! Keep going! Becky
