shabby retro vintage apron 2008

I found this vintage apron at our flea market, The lady told me it was from the 1950's,The fabric is like a linen, I brought it home and hand washed it, I then embellished it with lace, vintage yo yo's,and Cez glass beads , The pictures just don't do justice, The apron is so springy and so cheerful and has just a nice sparkle to it, and in the pocket is a A well loved family recipe for soup!
Vintage 1940's yo yo's these yo yo's are truly vintage..My sister in-law gave these to me, Her Mother and her Grandmother made these yo yo's in 1940's, Her Mother and her Grandmother would quilt using these yo yo's. Oh it is like a bag of gold, I love the teeny tiny stitches, and the old fabric is wonderful, I wished I could make my sister in-law some thing using these yo yo's she would love it.. these yo yo's were made 16 years before my hubby was even born! I embellished this Apron starting by adding lace , I took some of the vintage yo yo's and hand sewed them to area's on the apron..Then in the middle of each yo yo I hand sewed Cez glass beads in the center of them

Nice apron!

RE/the crazy quilting: Try it!!!! You will be hooked! I checked books from the library on the subject to get me started. I also gained so much inspiration from Sharon B at her blog - In A Minute Ago - especially her "I Dropped the Button Box" project. If you haven't seen it...get there....SOON! You will be inspired.

Love the apron. I adore 1950's fabric like that. I have some curtains I don't know what to do with, I did ponder the idea of making an apron out of one of them and maybe an oven mitt and peg bag. I'll see.
Yours looks lovely with the yo yos and the beads.
